Cultural & Historical Experience

Housed in the former Dar Al-Makhzen, also known as the Sultan’s Palace, the Kasbah Museum occupies the eastern part of Tangier’s Kasbah. The site holds exceptional historical depth: it was used successively by Carthaginians, Romans, Portuguese, English governors, and later became a symbol of Moroccan authority.

The current palace was built by Ahmed Ben Ali, following the departure of the English in 1684. An inscription inside the palace dates its foundation to 1737–1738 (1151 Hijri). Over time, the palace served as the seat of local power and underwent renovations during the reigns of Sultan Moulay Slimane and Sultan Moulay Hassan I.

Today, the museum showcases the cultural richness and diversity of the Mediterranean world within an authentic historic palace setting.
